All Natural

So I've been on a psudo-hunt for some alternative body care/makeup products. I usually get what's at the drugstore because mainly it's affordable but I'm tired of being upset with my skin and I'm certain it's what they put in those products that's to blame.  I was browsing this lovely girl's blog and stumbled upon this post and it inspired me! I browed all the sites and products she linked to and I decided to buy Dr. Hauschka's trial face care kit for oily/blemished skin.  I'm really looking forward to giving this a whirl.  I'm a freak about washing my face everyday and applying prescription medication to my blemishes but it doesn't really help.  I feel like every girl is entiled to a clear face! I also checked out Dr. Bronner's soap bars and almost bought some but then saw that the vitamin shop carries them. So I'll be making a trip.  Speaking of soap.  I've been really interested in attempting to make my own soap.  There are a few recipes I've looked at and I think I've found one I'm going to try next week.

To make this post even longer and drawn out here are some things that have caught my eye!

This cute floral one piece from Topshop

This AMAZING coat rack bench from Strawser & Smith.  It's perfectly rustic and cozy and It must be mine.

The cutest tape dispenser on Etsy.

This plait rope doormat from Etsy.

Just to name a few!

Recent thrifted finds

So I mentioned Nathan and myself have had a lot of luck thrifting lately.  Well, luck for us.

This chair is one of the more exciting things we've found! We got this at the DAV thrift store off Va Beach Blvd. It was originally $20 but we went back the week after and it was $15 so we got it. I'm considering revamping it a bit with some different fabric.

We snagged these at the Salvation Army. $4 each I think? I had to have them.

Everything on this table was thrifted at the DAV. I love that wooden frame so much.

Other things thrifted at the DAV.  I still need a lampshade for the lamp!

The last two things weren't thrifted. We got the table from Nate's Granny. We still need chairs for it! I've been perusing craigslist like a mad woman. No luck, though.  I inherited the crystal from an old neighbor.

And these were a Valentine's surprise from my mister.

summer shoes on the mind

Okay, so I pretty much loathe summer for the very reasonable fact that the humidity and stickiness do a terrible thing to my mood and, ahem, appearance.  I do not enjoy being sweatier than every guy I come across. Makeup dripping down my face. Clothing adhereing to every square inch of by smelly body.  Gross, right? I like the idea of summer, though.  Sunglasses, windows down, pretty flowers, AIR CONDITIONING.  Lately the weather here in my part of Virginia has been very nice.  High 50's, high 60's, 70's even?  That is the weather I enjoy!

I just noticed these Keen maryjanes the other day. They look soooo comfortable.  Perfect for long walks or adventuring!

Another pair that I saw in my newsest issue of Women's Health are these simple sneakers by Madewell. Usually sneakers make my feet look clownish so I try to stick with slim and simple canvas sneakers and nothing with a thick sole.  Plus, I can usually walk around in ballet flats and be pretty comfortable so I don't think I need a lot of support. Although, I'm sure a Podiatrist would beg to differ.

pining for vintage

I have to figure out how to get into a better blogging habit! I've spent most of my free time watching 30Rock and doing absolutely nothing productive in the slightest.  I'm "attempting" to study for a test coming up. And by attempting I simply mean my books are out and open, I'm just not doing anything about it.

I've had a lot of thrifting luck lately. I'll post some pictures soon! I'm excited to have accumulated a lot of thrifted things thus far! It would be simply wonderful to furnish and decorate our whole apartment with thrifted finds.  It's a complely tangible endeavor, too!
There are a few things I'm drooling over at Etsy.  Completely out of my price rage, unfortunately.  Then again anything over $20 seems ot be out of my price range.  Am I cheap? Probably.

1. These vintage nesting tables
2. These retro stacking mugs

3. This mid-century leather lounge chair w/ ottoman

Admittingly, it pains me a little everytime I look at my favorites and somethings sold. I DO like the idea that I COULD by it. C'mon folks! This is why I have a soft spot for Ikea. CHEAP, hello.  Poorly made, perhaps.  But they're preachin' to the cheap choir.

Movie: Coal Miner's Daughter

I really really must admit I have a soft spot for old female country singers.  There's something very comforting about it, don't ya think? Loretta Lynn first and foremost. She has such a powerful, ear catching voice.  I feel like modern music just doesn't have that same passion anymore.  The other day I put Coal Miner's Daughter at the top of our netflix queue and we received it a couple days later at which point I immediately popped it in my laptop and watched the whole thing through enjoying every second of it.  Loretta Lynn is played by the amazing Sissy Spacek and her husband Doo was played by Tommy Lee Jones.  The casting was just right.  I swear I get giddy when a movie just seems  so perfectly casted.  The absolute best part about this movie was that Sissy Spacek SANG THE SONGS HERSELF.  This woman has some pipes.  Apparently, she was trying to break into the music biz before acting.  Goodness she coulda made it.

Pop some corn and watch this movie!

(Sorry for the picture quality! I couldn't find any better stills. Source)
